About the Artist
Alias Shay, resident at Sahra Berlin, is a queer Tunisian DJ, producer, and
community organizer. For Alias Shay, music is more than a form of expression—it’s
activism. Carrying the echoes of ancestral guidance and cultural resilience, their
work is deeply rooted in creating spaces for community, igniting belonging, joy, and connection on the dancefloor.
The sets of Alias Shay resist categorization, refusing to conform to any one genre.
They are a dynamic fusion of sounds, weaving together the emotions of Raï, the
trance of Tunisian Mezwed, the energy of breaks and bass, the joy and nostalgia of Arabic pop, and even the experimental edge of deconstructed sounds. Every
performance invites the audience to experience a multi-layered sonic narrative,
inspired by rhythms and stories passed down through generations, yet always
forward-thinking in its approach.
