Welcome to the AL.ESTIVAL takeover at Refuge Worldwide. As part of the 2025 edition, we are hosting daily shows on Refuge Worldwide where we will be interviewing and discussing music, culture, and resistance with our community and artists participating in the festival. Today we are so excited to be talking with Maya and Roya from Ashlecker! Ashlecker combines tradition, humor, and a deep passion for cooking. The word “Ash” in Persian originally meant “food” and comes from the Indo-European root ed- or as-, meaning “to eat.” Today, Ash is an important traditional dish in Afghan and Iranian cultures, symbolizing community and togetherness. We will chat to Maya and Roya about the creative and healing potentials of cooking food and the power of spices. With deep curiosity and commitment they share antidotes and ideas of food and friendship. You can taste some of their delicious cooking at AL.FESTIVAL (last year they ran out so come early)!
